January seems to have disappeared in the blink of an eye. I'm slowly crawling back into maintaining some semblance of an online presence.
It hasn't been all bad, though. Over the past month, I've been able to deconstruct my episodic novel from NaNoWriMo 2011 into a series of short stories (some of which are actually passable). I've been editing these, and have submitted the first one to a few literary magazines.
I still plan to self-publish the collection when they are all done, but thought I'd test the traditional route first. The only problem with this approach is the long response times, even after doing a lot of research on Duotrope. I've eliminated many possibilities just based on that criterion, or--even worse--nonresponse rates. The good news is that more publications are accepting simultaneous submissions these days.
Now to get back into reading some blogs...
